The Department of Health Systems and Population Health Sciences in the University of Houston Tilman J. Fertitta Family College of Medicine (TJFFCOM) invites applications for a faculty position at the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Clinical Professor with a degree from an accredited allopathic or osteopathic college of medicine. We are recruiting new faculty that have achieved excellence in education and are prepared to contribute to our bold vision (http://www.uh.edu/medicine). Applicants must have a track record of excellence in interactive teaching. Experience in medical education is preferred. 

This faculty will contribute to the Physician, Patients, and Populations (PPP) Course, which spans 60 pre-clerkship weeks with 4 hours of weekly instruction. This course is critical to our mission of preparing diverse physicians to deliver primary care in underserved communities with an emphasis on care that is evidence-based, high-value, and team-based. Topics within this course include physician-patient communication, physical diagnosis, medical interviewing, clinical reasoning and decision-making, professionalism, medical ethics, social determinants and health disparities, population health, health informatics, quality improvement and safety, health systems and policy, interprofessional team-based care, cross-cultural care, behavioral health, and evidence-based medicine. The faculty position will lead activities related to clinical skills, which includes interviewing, physical exam, documentation, and simulation.

Specific duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

Primary Responsibilities: Duties of the position will include, but are not limited to:
•    Curriculum Development, Content Delivery, and Scholarship Related to the PPP Course (60%)
     o    Overseeing and implementing the PPP syllabus by collaborating with faculty within the Department, TJFFCOM, University, and                       broader Houston community
     o    Collaborating with the Center for Clinical Arts, Skills, and Experiential Learning (CCASEL) to develop and assess simulation activities
     o    Developing and teaching sessions within PPP related to clinical skills
     o    Developing and overseeing formative and summative evaluations of students, including 
     o    Reviewing and submitting final grades
     o    Identifying, coordinating, and evaluating opportunities for student scholarship and service learning
     o    Conducting an ongoing and annual evaluation of the course’s successes and challenges
     o    Communicating the evaluation results internally within the University and externally with the broader academic community through                 conference presentations and publications
     o    Working with the PPP leadership to implement the course
     o    Developing and facilitating student learning in small-group sessions
•    Service Related to TJFFCOM (10%)
     o    Participating in medical school accreditation activities 
     o    Providing feedback to mentees, staff, and students
     o    Contributing to relevant TJFFCOM committees 
     o    Establishing and maintaining collaborative and supportive relationships with colleagues and students
•    Clinical (30%)
     o    Evaluating and treating patients 
     o    Maintaining an electronic medical record of encounters, diagnostic studies, and referrals
     o    Participating in interdisciplinary team-based care

Full-Time: 1 FTE

Rank and salary commensurate with background and experience.

Minimum Qualifications:
•    Medical degree from an accredited allopathic or osteopathic college of medicine
•    Board certification 
•    Medical Licensure in the State of Texas, by the start date
•    Experience with an electronic health record
•    Commitment to innovative approaches to education and learning  
•    Ability to succinctly and effectively convey complex ideas through oral and written communication
•    Demonstrated commitment to diversity 

Preferred Qualifications:
•    Board certification in a primary care specialty
•    Experience teaching topics included within PPP and administrative responsibilities within an academic environment  
•    Experience teaching medical students
•    Experience building partnerships across disciplines in pursuit of educational or research objectives
•    Experience with cross-disciplinary teaching in an integrated medical curriculum
•    Experience with curriculum development and evaluation
•    Experience with survey design and data analysis
•    Experience using different teaching methods which might include case-based learning, ‘flipped classrooms’, problem-based learning, interactive large group presentations, and audience response systems
•    Five years’ experience providing clinical care

Consistent with all other appointments within TJFFCOM, this is a non-tenure track position.
