ASSISTANT OR ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR OF CHEMISTRY
The Division of Science in the College of Arts and Sciences at Southern Wesleyan University invites applications for a full-time Assistant or Associate Professor of Chemistry. The division seeks someone with a specialization in inorganic chemistry who can teach courses in general chemistry, inorganic chemistry, physical chemistry, biochemistry, and forensic chemistry. This 9-month position begins in August 2026. Salary and rank are commensurate with experience and credentials.
Primary responsibilities include teaching twelve credits per semester (4/4 load), advising and mentoring students academically and spiritually, maintaining an active research/professional development agenda, and serving on university committees. Additional responsibilities may include assisting with curriculum development and program assessment and collaborating with the Dean of Arts & Sciences, Admissions, and Marketing to promote Southern Wesleyan to prospective students.
Founded in 1906 and located in Central, South Carolina, Southern Wesleyan University spans 350 acres and is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges. With a student body of just under 1200 students, SWU is a diverse community with a 12:1 student-to-faculty ratio. The Division of Science currently offers B.S. degrees in biochemistry, biology, computer information systems, environmental science, exercise science, forensic science, mathematics, pre-dental science, pre-medical science, pre-nursing, pre-pharmacy, and pre-veterinary science, as well as a B.A. in chemistry.

Requirements
The ideal candidate will have:
- A Ph.D. in chemistry, or a closely related field with expertise in inorganic or physical chemistry.
- A mature faith in Jesus Christ.
- A firm commitment to the Christian liberal arts tradition and the mission of the university.
- A robust understanding of the integration of Christian faith and learning and an ability to help students think biblically and theologically about the study of chemistry.
- Demonstrated excellence in undergraduate teaching and a dedication to mentoring students from diverse backgrounds.
- Evidence of a strong research agenda and/or continuing professional development.
