Description
DescriptionThe Department of Biomedical Sciences, Division of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine seeks applicants for an Assistant Professor. The position is a continuing, 100 percent, twelve-month, tenure-track appointment. Appointment will include research space.
Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience, while also considering internal equity.
Examples of Duties
Teaching: Prepare and deliver lectures and/or laboratory experiments in courses taught by the department/school in both undergraduate and graduate curriculums and participate in the medical school curriculum as a facilitator and/or resource faculty. Serve on graduate thesis and dissertation committees.
Service: The faculty member is expected to become engaged in service activities beneficial to the department, university, and the scientific community.
Research: Conduct research in the field of biochemistry, develop and maintain a vigorous externally funded research program by preparing and submitting grant proposals, and obtaining external funding from state, federal and/or private sources; prepare and publish papers, attend scientific meetings and present talks and posters, mentor graduate students and other laboratory personnel.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications: Earned Ph.D. or equivalent degree in Biochemistry/Chemistry with research experience and focus in the biochemistry of molecules and cells. The specific area of research of the candidate should be competitive for extramural funding. At least two or more years of postdoctoral experience is required.

SIU School of Medicine (SOM) has its chief administrative unit and main campus in Springfield, IL, but has facilities and programs at multiple sites throughout central and southern Illinois. The SOM Carbondale campus is home to the Department of Biomedical Sciences, which houses the divisions of Anatomy and Neurobiology, Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, and Molecular and Integrative Physiology. The department offers a growing and interactive research environment with collaborative possibilities throughout the School of Medicine and with other departments on the SIU Carbondale campus.
