Candidates must have a Ph.D. in Classics or a related discipline by time of appointment.
Position Summary
The Department of Classics at the University of Georgia invites applications for a full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor in Classics with an anticipated start date of August 1, 2026. UGA Classics seeks a scholar of the Roman Empire specializing in ancient ethics.
The successful candidate is expected to maintain an active research agenda, teach undergraduate and graduate courses (with a 2-2 teaching load), and contribute to departmental governance.
Additional Requirements
Candidates must have a Ph.D. in Classics or a related discipline by time of appointment.
Relevant/Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, and/or Certification
Experience with at least one study abroad course is also an asset.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies
UGA Classics is a leader in innovative pedagogy from data analytics to the integration of the Humanities into the STEM curriculum, and we welcome applicants whose research or teaching can illuminate connections between ancient ethics and contemporary concerns, including AI and Applied Ethics. Qualifications include advanced teaching knowledge of Greek and Latin.
