This position is part of the President's Strategic Hiring Initiative (PHI) in Risk, Resilience, and Sustainability, which emphasizes Disaster, Risk, and Communication. We seek candidates committed to cross-disciplinary collaboration, particularly at the intersections of design, science, technology, and public engagement. The role offers opportunities to collaborate with colleagues across the arts, humanities, and sciences to translate complex information and datasets into clear, meaningful, and accessible forms-ranging from visual communication and information design to data storytelling and generative or emergent media.
The successful candidate will teach primarily at the undergraduate level, with opportunities for graduate instruction related to data visualization, generative media, graphic design, and visual communication. The typical teaching load will be four courses (2/2, 12 credits) per academic year. The candidate will maintain an active program of research and creative practice, mentor students, contribute to curricular development, and participate in departmental, college, and university service. This position supports the School's efforts to expand its program in scientific visualization.
