Description
The Department of Modern Languages and Linguistics at Florida State University invites applications for a nine-month tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in Japanese Literature and Cultural Studies to begin August 2026. We welcome applicants with a broad range of research interests, and we are especially interested in scholarship that transcends traditional disciplinary boundaries and/or engages multiple historical periods or cultures. Additional research areas may include environmental humanities and/or translation studies.
Requirements
Candidates should have a record of, or demonstrated potential for, distinguished scholarly research, and be committed both to excellence in teaching and to enhancing the department’s programs at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. The selected candidate will teach two courses per semester per the standard teaching assignment for tenure-track faculty. A PhD or highest-level terminal degree from an accredited institution is required, as well as native or near-native proficiency in Japanese and English.
