- Assistant Professor of Cybersecurity
Description
Duties:
Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in cybersecurity, computer networks, and related areas of computer engineering and computer science. Instruction in the Department of CECS is primarily in-person. (Mode of instruction may include in-person, hybrid, online, and/or any combination thereof.)- Contribute to the development, assessment, and continuous improvement of the curriculum in cybersecurity, computer networks, and related technical fields
Engage in sustained research and scholarly activities that result in peer-reviewed publications and external funding
Advise and mentor students to support their academic and professional growth
Provide service to the department, college, university, and broader community

Requirements
Required Qualifications:
Ph.D. in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or a closely related field. Areas of expertise may include, but not limited to, cybersecurity, computer and network security, hardware and embedded system security, cryptography, privacy-preserving and trustworthy computing, AI-driven security and adversarial machine learning, security of cyber-physical and autonomous systems, and/or cloud or edge system security. Degree at time of application or official notification of completion of the doctoral degree by August 1, 2026.
Demonstrated potential for effective teaching at both undergraduate and graduate levels in Computer Science and/or Computer Engineering
Demonstrated potential for excellence in research, and other related scholarly and/or creative activities
Demonstrated commitment to working successfully with a diverse student population, including low socioeconomic and first-generation students
Preferred Qualifications:
At least two years of teaching experience in undergraduate and/or graduate level courses in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, cybersecurity, or any related areas
At least one year of Postdoctoral experience especially in the following areas: cybersecurity, computer and network security, hardware and embedded system security, cryptography, or trustworthy computing
Experience successfully working with populations demographically and/or socioeconomically similar to the CSULB student body
Experience mentoring or supporting students using inclusive and culturally relevant teaching strategies in a diverse classroom
Department of Computer Engineering and Computer Science
The Department of Computer Engineering and Computer Science (CECS) at California State University, Long Beach, is a vibrant and diverse community of over 50 faculty and more than 2,000 students dedicated to advancing the frontiers of computing and engineering. EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS:
A background check (including a criminal records check and telephone reference check with most recent employer) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with the CSU. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the application status of applicants or continued employment of current CSU employees who apply for the position.
The person holding this position is considered a “mandated reporter” under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 Revised July 21, 2017 as a condition of employment.
Pursuant to the CSU Out of State Employment Policy, hiring employees to perform CSU-related work outside of California is prohibited effective January 1, 2022. By prohibiting employment outside of California, the CSU also prohibits hiring and retaining employees working permanently from a business location outside of the United States.
