- Assistant Professor of Occupational Safety and Health Management
Description
Central Washington University, in Ellensburg, WA, seeks a nine-month, full-time, tenure-track, Assistant Professor to teach in the Occupational Safety and Health Management (OSHM) degree program and associated minor, certificates and specializations, as well as the Risk, Insurance, and Safety Management (RISM) programs. We are looking for an ideal candidate who is passionate about teaching and committed to enhancing the educational experience for our undergraduate students. The successful candidate should have expertise in the relevant disciplines and prior industry experience in occupational safety, health, and/or risk management. The primary modality of the curriculum is in-person, lecture/laboratory, with some online instruction. The goal of the program is to prepare students for careers in occupational safety and health in the industrial, private business, construction, and public employment sectors of the economy. All employees are expected to uphold and contribute to CWU’s vision, mission, and values, fostering a culture of student success and institutional excellence. This position is an in-person position located at the Ellensburg campus.

Required Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Occupational Safety and Health, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Health, Environmental Management, Public Health, or related areas. Non related master’s degree and significant industry experience in Occupational safety and health or risk management also encouraged to apply.
- Minimum three years of applied industry experience in occupational safety and health, or industrial hygiene or risk management.
- Willingness and ability to teach a wide range of courses at the undergraduate and graduate level.
- Demonstrated ability and/or experience fostering a supportive and effective workplace while working with students and/or colleagues to uphold institutional excellence.
Preferred Qualifications:
- An earned doctoral degree related to content area(s) of courses to be taught.
- Relevant certifications such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP), associate in risk management (ARM), or similar certifications issued by nationally accredited credentialing bodies.
- University-level teaching experience.
- Strong interpersonal communication and public speaking skills.
- Excellent organizational and management skills.
- Experience working in partnership with an industry advisory board and key external stakeholders in multiple industry sectors.
- Operational knowledge of applicable safety and health-related instruments and equipment.
- Experience teaching both online and in-person courses.
- Experience in program review and accreditation such as ABET.
- Experience working with varied perspectives and backgrounds and/or utilizing a variety of teaching methods designed for broad student success.
- Demonstrated participation in programs designed to promote student success.
- Demonstrated commitment to improving access to higher education for students through various activities.
