Description
The Department of Sociology, Anthropology, Social Work, & Criminal Justice invites applications for a full-time Assistant Professor of Social Work position to begin August 15, 2026, to support both MSW and BSW Programs. Assistant Professors are expected to engage in scholarly activities, teach undergraduate and graduate courses based on their qualifications, and demonstrate a commitment to OU, the College of Arts and Sciences, and professional service.
We are looking for candidates who have the potential to teach across the generalist and advanced practice curricula of MSW and BSW programs, with options to teach HBSE, social welfare policy and/or practice courses in clinical and macro social work. The Assistant Professor is expected to engage in research, teaching, service and community engagement.
- Teach a five-course load per academic year across the generalist and advanced practice curricula of the MSW and BSW programs.
- Courses may include Human Behavior in the Social Environment (HBSE), Social Welfare Policy, and/or Clinical and Macro Social Work Practice.
- Develop and maintain an active research agenda with potential for publication and external funding.
- Engage in meaningful service to the program, university, profession, and broader community.
- Contribute to program development and accreditation activities as needed.
Requirements
MSW from an accredited social work program, 2 years post-MSW practice experience preferably in clinical practice, and a PhD in Social Work or a closely related field. Those who hold a clinical license or eligibility for a Michigan license as LMSW are especially encouraged to apply. Will consider ABD with proof of completion by August 15, 2026.
