Job Description:
The Education Department in the School of Humanities, Arts, and Education at Roger Williams University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Special Education, to begin in Fall 2026.
We seek a dynamic scholar-educator with expertise in Special Education and Disability and demonstrated experience in Elementary Literacy to join our collaborative education faculty. This position supports all of our undergraduate education degree programs, the Master of Arts in Special Education (mild/moderate) program, and represents an exciting opportunity to shape the future of bridging general education and special education preparation at both undergraduate and graduate levels. The candidate will teach both special education courses and literacy courses.
This is a 12-month, tenure-track appointment with opportunities for summer teaching and research support.
Job Requirements:
- Doctorate in Special Education
- Expertise in current Elementary Level Literacy instruction and intervention, with particular knowledge of the science of reading.
- Experience as a classroom teacher or in an applied professional setting.
- Demonstrated understanding and commitment to working with youth from diverse backgrounds with an asset-based orientation.
- Teacher Education experience at the undergraduate and/or graduate levels
- Expertise in special education law, policy, and current issues in the field
- Commitment to professional ethics and standards at the highest levels
Preferred Qualifications:
- Elementary Special Education license (any state)
- Familiarity with inclusive and structured literacy pedagogies
- Experience/expertise in Autism and/or Behavior & Social-Emotional Learning
- Experience conducting Professional Development for pre-service/in-service educator
- Experience with clinical supervision
- Experience teaching virtually (synchronous online, asynchronous, and hybrid)
At the University's discretion, the education and experience prerequisites may be excepted where the candidate can demonstrate, to the satisfaction of the University, an equivalent combination of education and experience specifically preparing the candidate for success in the position.
