Job Duties:
The Department of Computer Science in the College of Letters and Sciences at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, a federally designated Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense (CAE-CD), seeks a tenure-track Assistant Professor in cybersecurity, computer networks, or related areas to begin in August 2026.
This is a full-time position with responsibilities for teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in our cybersecurity and computer science programs; research; and service to the university, community, and profession. Research and teaching expertise should complement existing faculty expertise.
Job Details:
The successful candidate will be able to teach a variety of courses across the Cybersecurity B.S. and M.S. programs. Specific course assignments will depend on the candidate’s experience and the department’s needs, but may include courses in programming, web security, cloud security, system and software security, operating systems, digital forensics, computer networking, information privacy, or other topics related to cybersecurity.
The candidate will also be expected to pursue an active research agenda that engages undergraduate and graduate students; results in publications; and contributes to advancing the department, university, profession, and society. Additionally, the candidate will be expected to participate in service activities and to embrace the principles of diversity and inclusion as a member of the university community.
Requirements
Required Qualifications:

Ph.D. in computer science, cybersecurity, computer engineering, electrical engineering, information systems, or a closely related area is required. ABD candidates may apply but must have their degree completed by the contract start date in August 2026; if not, they will be hired on a one-year contract with the understanding that their degree will be completed before January 2027 in advance of their first scheduled review.

Demonstrated commitment to teaching with an emphasis on promoting the success of undergraduate and graduate students, clear evidence of scholarly potential, commitment to working with inclusive populations, and willingness to serve as an active member of the university community.
Preferred Qualifications:

Expertise in one or more areas of growth or need within the department, including cybersecurity, information privacy, computer/wireless networking, or other related areas.

Record of successful teaching experience and/or professional development in teaching, especially in teaching undergraduate students and/or in teaching fully online.

Cybersecurity work experience in industry, government, or military settings. Ability to involve undergraduate and graduate students in research.

Interest in introducing or developing activities that will broaden the participation of students from underrepresented groups in computing.

Grant writing experience.

Ability to interact respectfully with people from diverse socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds.

Willingness and ability to be an active participant in following applicable safety rules and regulations, including necessary training and drills.
