Brown University School of Engineering invites applications from outstanding candidates for a tenure-track faculty position(s) in Fluid and Solid Mechanics. The successful candidate shall have an outstanding record of scholarship in one or both of these areas, with a multidisciplinary vision with other areas of interest in Brown’s School of Engineering. The successful candidate shall establish, or have established, an independent group in theoretical and/or computational research, and is expected to collaborate with other Brown faculty members within and outside of the School of Engineering. About the Environment
Brown Engineering provides a unique environment, emphasizing the power of interdisciplinary thought with a focus on expanding connections across engineering disciplines and beyond traditional departmental boundaries. Brown Engineering has a long history of leadership in fluid and solid mechanics research, with further acceleration from a new Engineering Research building, the Center of Fluid Mechanics, the Mechanics of Undersea Science and Engineering (MUSE) program, the Initiative for Sustainable Energy (ISE), and the Institute for Biology, Engineering and Medicine (I-BEAM). The successful candidate will become affiliated with one or more of the interdisciplinary groups within the School of Engineering and contribute to teaching efforts and research projects across the school, including Fluids and Thermal Sciences, Solid Mechanics, Biomedical, Chemical, and Environmental Engineering.

Qualifications
Applicants must have earned a Ph.D. degree in engineering or a related discipline when joining the faculty. The start date is expected to be July 2026.
