A Ph.D. in planning or a related field from an accredited university by August 1, 2026.
Position Summary
The College of Environment and Design at the University of Georgia invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning in August 2026. The selected candidate will be expected to teach in our Master of Urban Planning and Design graduate planning program and our Urban Planning minor, pursue scholarly research, and provide public service and outreach.
The new faculty member will teach studio and lecture courses in at least two of the following areas: Urban Design, Physical Planning and Design, Land Use Planning, and Transportation. The selected candidate should be capable of teaching courses in Urban Design and Planning, including Studios and Graphic Representation, as well as specialized core courses and electives in land use planning and/or law.
Additional Requirements
- Demonstrated evidence in the practice of planning and design.
- Evidence of university teaching.
- A degree in Architecture or Urban Design is highly desirable
- Candidates should be comfortable with the planning studio pedagogy.
- Candidates should have an interest or expertise at the intersection of health, well-being, and urban planning and design.
Preference will be given to candidates with topics that align with UGA or CED priorities, particularly those related to health and well-being. Additional preference may be given to candidates with a vision for course development and teaching of high-enrollment undergraduate courses with university-wide appeal, connecting disciplinary knowledge with interdisciplinary contemporary issues. Such courses play a key role in communicating the importance of the discipline to the institution and often recruit students to the Master's program. The successful candidate shall be involved in professional development activities that contribute to the scholarship of teaching, research, and professional practice.
