The Division of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology at SIU Carbondale’s School of Medicine and the School of Chemical & Biomolecular Sciences in SIUC’s College of Agricultural, Life, and Physical Sciences invite applications for a joint tenure-track Assistant Professor position effective July 1, 2026. Southern Illinois University is a Research 1 (R1) Institution that offers Ph.D., M.S., and B.S. degrees. A successful candidate will join a vibrant and interdisciplinary environment known for its success in securing major (NIH/NSF/DOE/DOD) federal funding, including 7 NSF CAREER awardees and multiple NIH grants including MIRA, R01, and R15 awards for the current faculty. The selected candidate will be expected to develop and maintain a vigorous externally-funded research program, mentor graduate students and undergraduate researchers, and teach at both the undergraduate and graduate levels as well as contribute to the medical school curriculum. The position includes a 100% time, tenure track, 12-month state-funded salary and spacious research facilities.

Requirements
All applicants must have a Ph.D. with research experience and a focus on biochemistry or a related subfield. The specific area of research of the candidate should be competitive for extramural funding. At least two years of postdoctoral experience (by the time of hire) is strongly preferred.
