Candidates must have a PhD in Film Studies, Media Studies, or a related discipline in hand at the time of appointment.
Position Summary
The Department of Theatre and Film at the University of Georgia invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Film Studies with an anticipated start date of August 1, 2026.
The successful candidate will teach four courses per year, including introductory and advanced courses in film studies and film history and courses in the candidate's areas of specialization; and engage in service to the department, the university, and the profession. The successful candidate will offer split-level courses (undergraduate courses with graduate sections) and may have the opportunity to teach graduate seminars in the department's Theatre and Performance Studies PhD and in the MFA in Film, Television, and Digital Media jointly offered by the Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communications and the Department of Theatre and Film.

Relevant/Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, and/or Certification
Two years of college-level teaching experience is preferred.

Competitive applicants will have a strong record of research productivity and achievement, a well-developed research agenda, and a demonstrated commitment to effective teaching and mentoring within a respectful and welcoming environment.
The successful candidate will demonstrate the potential to develop a productive research agenda and a national reputation in their field.
Area of specialization is open. Desired areas of specialization include, but are not limited to, one or more of the following: global animation; cinemas of East, Southeast, South, or Western Asia and the Arab world and their diasporas; film and/or media theory; non-fiction and/or avant-garde film; feminist approaches in/to cinema; contemporary cinema considered in relation to adjacent and overlapping media (television, digital media, games, recorded sound).
