Position Description:
The Department of Chemistry and the Energetic Materials Research and Testing Center (EMRTC) at New Mexico Tech invite applications for a joint Faculty appointment. The faculty position is a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in the Chemistry Department, with the research portion of the position during the academic year and full-time
during the summer is supported by EMRTC. The successful candidate is expected to establish a vigorous, externally funded research program in the areas of energetic materials, synthetic chemistry, or materials chemistry, and mentor students at the graduate (PhD/MS) and undergraduate levels. The successful candidate will teach introductory, intermediate, and graduate chemistry courses and will develop new courses relevant to their research area expertise. The candidate will also participate in departmental service and outreach activities. Opportunities exist for collaboration with researchers in analytical chemistry, materials science, and engineering disciplines at NMT, as well as with nearby national laboratories and universities. A PhD in chemistry or a closely related field is required at the time of application; postdoctoral experience is required. Salary and rank are commensurate with experience and qualifications aligned with the details in NMT’s Policy and Procedure for Appointment, Promotion & Tenure. The preferred start date is the Fall 2026 semester.
Department Description:
The department’s research strengths are in biomedical chemistry, electrochemistry and atmospheric/environmental chemistry. We encourage applicants who can develop strong connections with Sandia and Los Alamos National Laboratories. Our institution values excellence in teaching, and a successful candidate will exhibit great enthusiasm for
mentoring and education of students at all levels. We are particularly interested in candidates comfortable teaching organic, inorganic, or physical chemistry. A strength of our rigorous undergraduate program is the extensive opportunities for involvement in mentored research. We have well-established graduate programs, including master’s, accelerated master’s, and PhD pathways. Candidates should help us attract more students to our graduate and undergraduate programs.
