SUMMARY PURPOSE OF THE POSITION: The College of Visual and Performing Arts (CVPA) at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth invites applications for a non-tenure-track, nine-month renewable position as an Assistant Teaching Professor in Interior Architecture and Design (IAD), beginning September 1, 2026. The teaching load is six courses per academic year.
We seek a dynamic and innovative designer-educator committed to student success and contemporary design education. The ideal candidate will possess strong design skills, professional expertise across diverse environments, and the ability to integrate current professional practices with emerging technologies. The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to teach design across the IAD curriculum and to incorporate contemporary methods into instruction. In addition to teaching undergraduate courses at all levels, the appointed faculty member will contribute to curriculum development and assessment, advise students, engage in service at the departmental, college, and university levels, and foster a collaborative approach to both practice and pedagogy.
The Interior Architecture and Design program provides students access to dedicated computer labs, a color and lighting lab, material resource room, woodworking shop, and a printing and Media Center. The program also benefits from strong connections to community partners, industry professionals, and alumni, which enrich both teaching and professional practice.
Minimum qualifications:
- A terminal degree in Interior Architecture and Design such as a PhD, MFA, MID, March, MS (60 credits), or MA (60 credits) or an appropriate master’s degree in Interior Architecture and Design or a closely aligned field is required.
- At least five years of professional practice experience
- Relevant professional certifications (such as NCIDQ, RA, LEED, AKBD, or NKBA).
- Demonstrated proficiency in current industry methods, technologies, and practices;
- Expertise with industry-standard software including Revit, Enscape, AutoCAD, SketchUp, and Adobe Creative Suite;
- An active record of scholarship or professional achievement.
