The School of Communication and Information (SC&I) on the Rutgers-New Brunswick campus houses a dynamic community of scholars who conduct engaged research and teach in the areas of communication, information science, media studies, information technology, journalism, librarianship, organizational and health communication, public relations, and other professional practice areas. SC&I has five undergraduate programs, two master’s degrees, an interdisciplinary doctoral program, and non-degree continuing education programs. We value our culture of collegiality and work hard to support the success of our full- and part-time faculty, staff, and students. The school has over 80 full-time faculty members, 160 part-time faculty members, about 50 teaching/graduate assistants and fellows, about 55 staff, hundreds of coadjutant and student worker appointments per year, and over 2,500 undergraduate majors and graduate students, with a budget close to $70M. SC&I is seeking an Associate Dean for Administration. (The incumbent is retiring.) This position reports directly to the Dean of the School of Communication and Information and has a reporting relationship to the New Brunswick Senior Vice Chancellor of Finance and Administration. The associate dean is the chief financial and chief operating officer of the school and serves as the dean’s chief of staff; leads and manages the financial, human, technology, facilities, and organizational operations and resources of the school, and supervises senior staff who lead these operations; serves as a key member of the dean’s cabinet conducting strategic planning; works closely with department chairs and program directors to support their planning and operations; represents the dean and school on a range of university committees and venues; serves the senior vice-chancellor as a part of the New Brunswick Financial Officers group and its sub-committees; acts as the liaison for the school with university offices such as Office of General Counsel, University Office of Labor Relations, and Ethics and Compliance.

Requirements
- Minimum of a master’s degree in a relevant field.
- Minimum of ten years of supervisory and/or executive experience in higher education, including responsibility for budget development and financial management, human resources management, enrollment management, and/or long-range planning.
- We are looking for a creative leader with a vision for the importance of collaboration with stakeholders in managing finance, personnel, and administrative operations in achieving institutional excellence.
- Experience in strategic analysis and planning.
- Demonstrated success in managing a complex organization and in establishing excellent relationships with a range of diverse internal and external constituents including faculty, staff, students, alumni, university administration, and others.
- Ability to serve as a capable representative of the dean and school in a range of venues and meetings.
- Technology proficiency and outstanding communication skills are critical.
- Experience with grants and contracts is preferred.
- Previous experience with Tableau or similar software preferred.
Most Rutgers academic staff are currently working three days on campus and two days remotely. For this position some telecommuting is permitted, but the expectation is that the incumbent will be on campus most of the time.
Occasional evening work is required.
Some travel across the five connected towns on which Rutgers-New Brunswick is located is required. There may also be the occasional travel within the state of New Jersey to other Rutgers campuses.
