Description
The Department of Endodontics in the College of Dentistry at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure track Open Rank Professor. We are seeking a dedicated, collaborative, and clinically skilled endodontist to join our dynamic academic environment. This role contributes significantly to the educational mission of the college through direct instruction, clinical supervision, patient care, and faculty engagement. The successful candidate will be expected to actively support the college’s values of excellence, respect, and integrity, through teaching and clinical practice.
Responsibilities
- Provides comprehensive clinical and didactic instruction in endodontics.
- Participate in curriculum development, course planning, calibration, and ongoing assessment of student/resident competencies.
- Contribute to a collegial and collaborative environment that encourages academic growth, clinical excellence, and continuous improvement.
- Provide clinical supervision in endodontic treatment planning and advanced procedural techniques, including both surgical and non-surgical interventions.
- Engage in scholarly activity and evidence-based teaching practices; support students and residents in case presentations and research projects.
- Maintain appropriate documentation, student assessments, and contribute to accreditation-related processes (e.g., CODA reviews).
- Participate in developmental meetings, academic committees, faculty development, and university service activities.
- Contribute to patient care activities within the UT Health Science Center College of Dentistry clinics, including supervising clinical procedures in compliance with licensure regulations and institutional policies.
- Supervision, evaluation, and mentorship of predoctoral dental students (and conditionally) postdoctoral endodontics residents in both clinical and didactic settings.
- Deliver high-quality education in classroom, seminar, and clinical settings focused on endodontic principles and techniques.
- Engage in scholarly activities and assist residents in developing research ideas and case studies.
- Provide oversight and supervision of patient care delivered by students and residents, with occasional direct clinical responsibilities depending on licensure and department needs.
- Actively participate in departmental committees, college governance, and community outreach consistent with academic citizenship.
Requirements
EDUCATION: DDS/DMD Degree or equivalent from an accredited U.S. or Canadian dental school. Completion of a CODA-accredited post-graduate Endodontics program.
EXPERIENCE: Prior experience in teaching in dental education settings. Demonstrated experience in advanced endodontic surgical and non-surgical techniques. Evidence of clinical excellence, professional development, and continuing education. Experience in private practice preferred.
LICENSE: Eligible for licensure to practice dentistry in the State of Tennessee. Eligibility for moderate sedation permit preferred.
