Job Description (NOTE: Position includes free housing and meals on top of salary)
The Dean of Students is an administrative position providing support to all students in the pursuit of appropriate spiritual, educational, enrichment, and activities programs. Assignment will vary considerably including, but not limited to: pastoral care for students, student attendance tracking and intervention, student support team coordination, student scheduling coordination, student leadership and activities coordination, policy development and implementation, and oversight of the residential life team and program, participation on the student chapel team.
The Dean of Students is expected to have an active and physical presence around campus throughout the school day and during after-school activities on a regular basis.
Core Duties and Responsibilities:
Responsibility for maintenance of student discipline and attendance issues, investigation of disciplinary problems, parent communication, and conflict mediation, and mentoring of students.
Assists in tracking of student progress, and monitors secondary graduation status with the assistance of the college counselor
Attends Secondary Student Support Team meetings
Participates in scheduling of students
Oversees enforcement and maintenance of school-wide uniform policy, and encouragement of the English as Language of Inclusion policy.
Provides oversight and planning of extracurricular programs.
Coordinates with school office and business office for the scheduling and operation of extra-curricular activities school-wide.
Provide the overall leadership of the residential life program, attending to any and all residential life related tasks.
Oversee residential life assistant(s) and teachers during their residential life shifts.
Work with Residential Life teams to design/oversee/facilitate appropriate activities and recreational programs for boarding students.
Fill in for dorm parents who need coverage as necessary.
Organize and track student Passports and I20’s.
Organize, track, and update the student tech registry.
Review security camera footage as necessary.
Performs other duties as assigned by the Secondary Principal and Head of School.
Additional Duties and Responsibilities:
Supervises and coordinates with leadership team to oversee student activities, student government, assemblies, award and recognition programs, student clubs, etc. (regularly attends evening activities & athletic events).
QUALIFICATIONS
Licenses and Certificates: Bachelor’s degree required. (Valid Teaching Credential or Administrative Credential a plus)
Education and Experience: Candidate should have significant previous experience working with children (K-12 desirable) and at least some previous leadership experience in a school or youth ministry setting.
Knowledge and Skills:
Requires a working knowledge of:
Youth Ministry, youth work, or teaching
Office practices, procedures, and equipment
Letter and report writing
Proper English usage, grammar, spelling, & punctuation
Problem-solving skills
A good sense of humor
Excellent human relations skills to convey information to parents, students, staff, and other institutions in a friendly, consistent, and clear manner.
Basic record-keeping practices and rules of confidentiality.
Abilities:
Must be a self-starter capable of assessing what needs to be done and establishing necessary steps to accomplish tasks.
Candidate must have the ability to perform all of the duties of the position efficiently, effectively, and consistently both independently and as part of a team. The candidate must also have the ability to organize work to meet schedules and timelines, despite the frequent interruptions and distractions in a fast paced setting. Candidate must also be familiar with standard software applications such as Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, E-mail, and web-based reporting solutions, and must be able to learn new applications and search out appropriate technology tools as needed. Candidate must be able to deal with sensitive communications and maintain confidentiality. As a Christian School, APIS is seeking a candidate who is interested in participating in the Christian Life Department and able to provide pastoral care for students.
Requirements
