The Evelyn Barry Director of Choral Programs coordinates two of Wellesley College’s most visible ensembles that are beloved both on and off campus. The position requires substantial leadership, mentoring, as well as musical skills. The Director plans all aspects of two collegiate SSAA ensembles: the Wellesley College Choir and the Wellesley College Chamber Singers, including recruitment, auditions, and musician development. In addition to two featured concerts per year (one of which can involve other ensembles), the Director selects repertoire and programs performances of those ensembles as a part of campus events and rituals as well as national/international tours. The Director liaises with student leadership in the choir club, including fundraising plans. Through the Choral Scholars Program, the Evelyn Barry Director nurtures the next generation of choral conductors. The position includes teaching one academic course per year in the Music Department (Conducting, and other courses as needed), hold regular office hours in person, and promptly respond to student inquiries throughout the semester.
Basic Qualifications:
- DMA or PhD in Choral Conducting.
- Higher education teaching experience.
- Two years professional conducting experience is preferred.
Position Information:
Teaching Load: 1 academic course, 2 ensembles
Term of Appointment: This is an initial three-year term, with the possibility of renewal pending staffing, operational, curricular, and financial needs and by successfully meeting the criteria for evaluation and reappointment.
Target Start Date: July 1, 2026
Minimum Salary: $75,295
