Electrical and Computer EngineeringUniversity of Pittsburgh
The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) in the Swanson School of Engineering (SSOE) at the University of Pittsburgh (Pitt) invites faculty applications in the area of AI for health.
We seek a research scholar and educator for a tenured or tenure-stream Professor (open rank) in AI theory, software, and hardware for health applications, leveraging the strengths of our world-renowned School of Health Sciences and the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. The candidates are expected to have excellent research and teaching records and build a high-quality research program to connect with our current faculty and extend into new areas. The start date for this position is Fall 2025.
Founded in 1787, Pitt is one of the oldest institutions of higher education in the nation and is located in one of the most beautiful, family-friendly, affordable, and vibrant of the major US cities. The ECE Department at Pitt was founded in 1893 by two engineering legends, George Westinghouse and Reginald Fessenden, and for over 130 years, has excelled in education, research, and service. Today, Pitt-ECE features innovative undergraduate and graduate programs and world-class research centers and labs, combining theory with practice at the nexus of computer and electrical engineering, for our students to learn, develop, and lead lives of impact. Over the past five years, we modernized our two undergraduate programs, making them among the very best in the nation.
With 34 full-time faculty members, ECE offers B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in electrical and computer engineering, with an enrollment of over 400 undergraduate and 170 graduate students. SSOE recently completed a $100 million renovation and redesign of Benedum Engineering Hall (BEH), home of ECE, with state-of-the-art teaching and research labs. As part of its growth, ECE has relatively new facilities on several floors of Schenley Place, a state-of-the-art research building within walking distance of BEH, and the Energy Innovation Center in downtown Pittsburgh. Both are major hubs for industry and university collaboration.
Candidates are expected to have a Ph.D. in computer engineering, electrical engineering, or a closely related discipline. Applications are due by March 5, 2025, although candidates will continue to be considered until the positions are filled. Interested applicants should apply to requisition number 25000093 at Pitt Talent Center by visiting https://www.join.pitt.edu. The following material should be submitted: (1) a cover letter, (2) a complete CV (including funding record, if applicable), (3) a research statement, (4) a teaching statement, (5) statement describing experience with or interest in activities to enhance diversity, inclusion, and equity, (6) three representative publications, and (7) names and complete contact information of at least four references.
