Position: Microsoft Visiting Research Scholar/Visiting Professor
Description:
The Microsoft Visiting Research Scholar/Visiting Professor track of the Center for Information Technology Policy (CITP) fellows program is for visiting academics who are nationally or internationally recognized experts in technology policy. Appointments are typically for a term of up to nine months with an expected start date on or about September 1, 2026. The Microsoft Visiting Research Scholar/Visiting Professor is expected to collaborate and contribute to CITP's mission in at least one of the following ways: 1.Teach one course related to their research during their nine-month term, subject to sufficient enrollment and with the approval of the Dean of the Faculty. 2.Envision and lead a conference or a series of workshops during their time at CITP. 3.Collaborate with existing faculty members on research and jointly mentor students or CITP's emerging scholars. Candidates will be required to provide detailed proposals in their cover letter pertaining to one or more of these three areas. The selected candidate's primary appointment will be at the rank of "Visiting Research Scholar" or "Visiting Professional Specialist" depending on experience. Typically, there will be one Microsoft Visiting Professor per year. If the appointed scholar teaches a course, they will carry the title of Microsoft Visiting (Assistant/Associate) Professor in the semester of teaching. Requirements:*The work location for this position is in-person on campus at Princeton University. *Ph.D. or J.D.*Nationally or internationally recognized expert in technology policy.*Applicants must be on leave from another institution. If you are selected, we will require documentation from your home institution stating that you are on leave during your entire appointment period while here at CITP. Please submit a current curriculum vitae, a research statement, and a cover letter describing your background, interest in the program, and salary requirements, noting any support you will be receiving during that period, such as sabbatical funding. Please include a proposal in your cover letter elaborating on how you plan to contribute to CITP during your term. If you are proposing to teach, please include details about potential topics you are willing to teach (provide a sample syllabus and reading list). If you are proposing to develop a conference or workshop series, please include a proposal describing the series, potential speakers, audience, and output of the conference. Finally, if you are proposing to collaborate on research with existing faculty members, please describe the joint project and potential mentorship opportunities associated with the project. Written proof of employment and salary must be provided by the candidate's home institution upon hire for the academic year. Expected Salary Range: Salary is dependent on and can be up to the candidate's current full salary at their home institution.
The University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's qualifications, work experience, education/training, key skills, market, collective bargaining agreements as applicable, and organizational considerations when extending an offer. The posted salary range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate for a full-time position; salaries for part-time positions are pro-rated accordingly.
