Jointly Between the Discovery AI Initiative and Department of Cell Biology
The Duke University Discovery AI initiative and Department of Cell Biology jointly invite applications for a tenure-track faculty position in the area of deep neural networks for biology. Successful candidates will have a strong interest in developing, interpreting, and applying new algorithms and models motivated by biological research in the areas of cell biology, developmental biology, neuroscience, and regenerative biology. Example application areas include generative models for protein design, single-cell data, or other AI/ML approaches for spatial, multi-omic, genomic and proteomic datasets, biological imaging, or multiscale modeling. Particular attractions of this position include a generous startup package and benefits, potential secondary appointments with other departments, such as Biostatistics & Bioinformatics and Computer Science, and outstanding data and translational opportunities across Duke University. Duke has an exceptional history in biomedical research innovation that includes data science. In addition to cutting-edge proteomic, genomic, imaging, and Cryo-EM cores, faculty will have access to extensive computing resources, including access to ~100 Nvidia H200 GPUs.
Applicants should hold a Ph.D. in computer science-related or biomedical research fields relevant to this search. Successful candidates will have track records of creativity and productivity, and a desire to integrate into our exciting, collaborative, and growing AI-Bio community. They will be expected to mount a productive and innovative research program, obtain outside funding, and participate actively in graduate and post-graduate training and mentorship.
