Job DescriptionThe University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law, located in Baltimore, is currently accepting applications for a one-semester Visiting Professor (Assistant, Associate, or Full, depending on teaching experience), for the Fall 2026. The Visiting Professor will teach two courses, one of which will be first-year Civil Procedure, plus an additional course of curricular need. The courses would be taught in person at the law school.
Law school campus: Maryland Carey Law is advantageously located in downtown Baltimore near multiple courthouses, government agencies, prominent law and financial firms, major-league sports facilities, and nonprofit organizations. The law school campus also is easily accessible within the greater Washington DC-Baltimore metropolitan region, close to I-95 and only 40 minutes from Washington by Amtrak or commuter rail.
Qualifications
- J.D. degree with a record of high academic achievement from an ABA-accredited law school
- Record of excellent law school teaching.
- Dedication to the mentoring of first-year law students.

The expected salary for a Visiting Assistant Professor is the prorated equivalent of one semester at an annualized salary of $130,000 which will be paid by the University of Maryland Carey School of Law. This salary reflects the University of Maryland Carey School of Law's good-faith estimate at the time of posting. Final compensation will depend on several factors, including academic rank, relevant experience, internal equity considerations, market conditions, and education or training, as reasonably determined by the University.
Candidates currently holding the rank of Associate Professor or Professor at another institution who remain employed by the other institution, would continue to be compensated by the candidate's home institution. The University of Maryland Carey School of Law will reimburse the candidate's home institution for one semester of the candidate's salary.
