Position Responsibilities:

New Mexico State University Department of Kinesiology is seeking a full-time, 9-month, college-track assistant professor (non-tenure-track) who will assist in achieving the department’s mission of teaching and service.
The faculty member must be able to provide undergraduate instruction in Nutrition and Metabolism for Sport, Anatomy and Physiology, Exercise Prescription for Clinical Populations, Exercise Physiology, and/or Introduction to Kinesiology.
Advise and mentor undergraduate students.
Participate in faculty governance through department, college, and university service.
NMSU Department of Kinesiology
The Department of Kinesiology is housed in the College of Health, Education, and Social Transformation on the vibrant campus of New Mexico State University. The department has an undergraduate enrollment of approximately 610 majors, and a graduate enrollment of approximately 40 between the Master’s program in Athletic Training and the Ph.D. program in Kinesiology.
Faculty are made up of both college track and tenure track that work collaboratively to accomplish the mission of the department and ensure student success. The department houses teaching and research spaces in exercise physiology, motor behavior, physical education pedagogy, sport and exercise psychology, biomechanics, and strength and conditioning.
In 2026, the department will move into a newly renovated academic and research space, further enhancing the capacity to serve students and conduct high-impact research and teaching. We are also proud to be a member of the American Kinesiology Association and a recognized Educational Recognition Program (ERP) through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA).

Requirements
Required Qualifications - The candidates must:
1. Possess an earned doctorate from an accredited institution of higher education in Kinesiology, Exercise Science, Exercise Physiology, or related field. ABD is acceptable with a graduation date prior to the start at NMSU.
2. Be able to provide undergraduate instruction in the area(s) of Nutrition and Metabolism for Sport, Anatomy and Physiology, Exercise Prescription for Clinical Populations, Exercise Physiology, and/or Introduction to Kinesiology.
3. Demonstrated a commitment to student mentoring and advising.
4. Demonstrate effective communication and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Qualifications - Preference will be given to those candidates who:
1. Show evidence of high-quality instruction at the undergraduate level in a variety of kinesiology courses.
2. Provide evidence of service work within an academic setting.
3. Certified ACSM-EP and/or Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist
