- Assistant Dean of Kelley Finance and Operations (Financial Admin Leader)
Description
The Indiana University Kelley School of Business seeks a strategic, collaborative, and forward-thinking Assistant Dean of Finance and Operations to provide strategic oversight and hands-on management across Kelley's financial portfolio, physical infrastructure, and operational functions. Beyond technical execution, Assistant Dean is a visionary leader and strategic thinker responsible for mentoring a high-performing team, fostering institutional efficiencies, and navigating complex cross-departmental challenges.
Department-Specific Responsibilities
- Acts as the primary liaison between the school, the campus, and the IU Foundation to ensure fiscal integrity and support of the mission of the Kelley School of Business.
- Oversees the preparation and analysis of monthly general fund activity, unrestricted fund spending, and tuition/credit hour projections utilizing advanced data visualization.
- Develops long-term funding strategies for general and non-general expenses; project the lifespan of cash balances to ensure sustainable growth.
- Continually assess reporting tools and staff workflows to maximize productivity; lead the evolution of the Faculty Resource Allocation Tracking (RATs) system and Business Office processes.
- Manage Indiana University Foundation (IUF) accounts, ensuring all funds are strategically activated.
- Serves as Project Manager for the annual budget cycle (December-April), ensuring adherence to deadlines and securing necessary approvals.
- Directs the preparation of comprehensive financial documentation for high-level meetings with the Provost and other campus leaders.
- Leads the submission of the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) Annual Salary and Financial Surveys; compile key financial and operational data for the overall accreditation report.
- Collaborates on renovations and improvements; manage funding sources through the project lifecycle.
- Strategically allocate office and classroom space across Kelley School spaces; collaborate with others on faculty locational needs and instructional space needs.
- Oversees the FOS (Facilities and Operations Support) team in managing school-wide maintenance, real estate leases, and furniture procurement.
- Ensures total staff compliance with evacuation procedures, business continuity plans, and emergency medical (CPR/AED) training.
- Manages contracts for Kelley-authored e-texts with IU Legal Counsel and reconcile revenue from software and digital resources.
- Provides financial oversight for "Kelley Outfitters," including daily credit card reconciliation and monthly reporting to the University Controller.
- Oversees centralized event planning services, supporting internal stakeholders in executing everything from departmental lunches to multi-day international conferences.
- Dedicates significant time to mentoring staff, addressing complex operational questions, and fostering a culture of "deep thinking" to solve systemic issues.
- Conducts specialized cost-benefit analyses, including graduate programming costs, IT expenditure summaries, and longitudinal tenure/promotion salary trends.

EDUCATION
Required
- Bachelor's degree in finance, business, or related field.
Preferred
- Master's degree in business administration, public administration, higher education leadership, or related field.
WORK EXPERIENCE
Required
- 5 years of related functional experience.
- 3 years of management experience in related field.
Preferred
- Extensive experience in high-level financial management, preferably within a higher education or complex non-profit environment.

- Ability to understand and interpret financial policies, regulations, and pertinent state/federal laws.
- Advanced knowledge of financial statements and different budgetary models; ability to apply in different situations.
- Knowledge of human resources laws and procedures related to managing staff; knowledge and understanding of the importance of mentors and mentorships.

Preferred

- Proficiency in KFS, Tableau, and standard university reporting tools; ability to translate complex data into actionable executive summaries.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills to work with faculty, staff, and students internal and external to the University.
