Position: Assistant/Associate Professor - Family and Consumer Sciences [Gerontology]
Internal Number: 008077
12- month non-tenure track Research Faculty appointment.
Primary responsibilities will include establishing and maintaining a research program through interdisciplinary collaborations leading to grant writing and publications; teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in family and consumer sciences, in the gerontology area in particular; participating in curriculum development; engaging in accreditation procedures, program coordination, and program assessment; serving on department, college and university committees and participating in other research and academic functions.
Minimum Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an earned Ph.D. in Gerontology or a related discipline from an accredited university. A specialization in social gerontology or sociological perspectives on the life course.
A record of research excellence as demonstrated by peer reviewed publications and strong record of grant writing and extramural funding or significant scholarship.
Preferred experience and training:
The candidate should demonstrate the ability to teach graduate and undergraduate courses related to gerontology and family and consumer sciences core courses; effective oral and written communication skills; effective interpersonal skills; experience advising and mentoring students; strong technology skills.
Research:
Continues, or develops, a research program related to emerging trends connecting gerontology and family and consumer sciences. Leverage the interdisciplinary nature of family and consumer sciences (nutrition, housing, financial management, human development, fashion and textiles) to promote health and wellbeing of older adults and address the needs of an aging population.
Maintain active research partnerships by keeping abreast of current trends in the field, collaborating with colleagues, building industry partnerships, and participating in professional organizations and conferences. Dissemination of findings in professional journals, books, or electronic media is expected.
Seeks external and internal funding to support scholarly activities and priorities set forth by research programs within the College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences, including the USDA-National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA), NSF, and the NIH.
Instructional:
Teach graduate and/or undergraduate courses related to gerontology and family and consumer sciences core courses. The candidate will participate in undergraduate advising, training and mentoring of graduate students.
Service
Service related activities will include recruitment and retention of students, program coordination and serving on departmental, college and university committees, community service, and professional consultation, outreach and extension
